| | Born in Lebanon, Connecticut, he worked in New York between 1794 and 1798. He then went to Hartford, Connecticut until 1825, where he founded the Hartford Graphic and Bank Note Engraving Co. , an association of engravers. However, he was the vignette designer rather than engraver. He remained in that city until 1826, when he went to Albany with Benjamin Trott.. Earliest dated plates by Tisdale are full page illustrations to "McFingal, "published in New York in 1795. |
