| Born on Sept. 5, 1865 in Newburgh, NY. John was the nephew of artist James C. Nicoll. The younger Nicoll studied in Paris for three years at Académie Julian under Bouguereau and Ferrier. He continued at Academia Real in Seville and in Rome. Three winters were spent traveling in North Africa. By 1899 he had settled in Pasadena. He taught drawing at the College of Fine Arts in Garvanza from 1906 until 1935. Upon retirement, he moved to San Diego and lived there until his death on Feb. 10, 1 (showing 500 of 1071 characters). |
