| | Born in Berkeley, CA on Sept. 16, 1896. Matthew studied at the AIC, UC Berkeley, with Hans Hofmann, Leon Kroll, and Henry McFee. He taught at Sacramento College (1926-60) and served on the board of directors at the Crocker Art Gallery for 22 years. He died in Sacramento on Oct. 7, 1980.
