Biography from AskART:
| Udomsak Krisanamis was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1966, but came to the United States in 1991. He studied in Bangkok at Chulalongkorn University, graduating in 1989, and at the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois, in 1991-1993. He now lives and works in upstate New York.
Krisanamis learned English by reading the newspaper, then using black ink to cross out the words he learned. This patterning of the page led to his large, dark drawing-paintings, densely covered with an impenetrable black webbing of woven lines. Udomsak has since moved to the use of materials like mail, receipts, tea and noodles collaged on sheets, towels and blankets.
He exhibited, in 2000, at the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio. A catalogue, Udomsak Krisanamis, accompanied the show, with text by associate curator Annetta Massie, the first publication about the artist.
