A lithographic artist of highly realistic and accurate birds-eye views, Augustus Koch was born in Birnbaum, Germany and lived primarily in Wisconsin and Illinois. However, he traveled to over twenty-three states including in the Far West and Texas.
Koch appeared to have received a good education, but the specifics of his training are unknown. He emigrated to Wisconsin with his parents and, enlisting in the Army, served as a clerk and draughtsman in the Engineers Office of the Wisconsin I (showing 500 of 2252 characters). |
