Alice C. Foresman, teacher, artist, portraitist, miniaturist, was born in Darian, Wisconsin and spent her early years teaching in in one-room country schools in and around Darian. From 1917 to 1918, she lived in Seattle, Washington and then she moved to Los Angeles and for many years taught art at the San Fernando High School. She also studied at the American School of Miniature Painting in New York City, under Lucia Fairchild Fuller.
