Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| Painter, etcher. Born in London, England March 28, 1874. Elder was active in London with the Chelsea Art Club. He studied with Walter Sickert and others before moving to San Francisco in 1905. He established a home and studio at 1210 Lombard Street and exhibited at the Mark Hopkins Institute in spring of 1906. Due to the earthquake he left San Francisco and returned to the East. By 1925 he had settled in Westport, CT
and was director of the Westport School of Art for many years. Elder died in Westport on June 28, 1948. WWAA 1936-47.
