Biography from AskART:
The following is from John R. Carpenter, Carpenter family genealogist from La Mesa, California.

Carnard Carpenter and Carnot Carpenter appear to be the same person, who was was born October 6 1820 and died December 27, 1853 in Buffalo, New York.
He was the son of Buffalo newspaper publisher William Allison Carpenter (1781-1858) and Elizabeth Edsell (1786-1868), and was a descendant of Captain William Carpenter (1605-1658/1659) of Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts.

He drew portrait sketches for his father's newspaper. The 1850 census in Buffalo lists him as "Car" Carpenter, a grocer. He became sickly and died young.

His ancestry is documented in the genealogical book by Amos B. Carpenter. A
GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF THE REHOBOTH BRANCH OF THE CARPENTER FAMILY IN AMERICA. Also known as the CARPENTER MEMORIAL. Published 1898 By: Press of Carpenter & Morehouse, Amherst, MA. See pages 285 & 286.
