Biography from AskART:
| An engraver and drawing teacher, Jehu Brainard was a teacher of perspective drawing from 1849 to 1859 in Cleveland, where he was also a, lecturer on geology. He was politically active in the Free Soil, anti-slavery party.
From 1853 to 1859 he and William Burridge were partners in the engraving firm of Brainard & Burridge.
"Note: a John Brainerd was listed in the 1850 Census as an engraver, age 46, living in Cleveland with his wife, Lucy, age 38, and daughter Lucy, age 10; all were natives of Ohio. It is very possible that Jehu Brainard and John Brainerd are the same man. "
