Biography from AskART:
| Known for taking Hebrew and English versions of the Torah and turning them into an art form that is installation sculpture, she examines the patriarchal code.
Her work, and installation title "Trilogy and Epilogue," is the product of her Orthodox Jewish background. She was raised in Brooklyn's Borough Park and became the wife of a rabbi while still in her teens. Her husband died in 1961, and she broke away from what she regarded as a constrained world and attended art classes at Brooklyn College where she studied with Ad Reinhardt.
From that time she has carried out a number of projects in the United States and abroad involving politics, environment, antimilitarism and her Jewish heritage. |
